Saturday ended up being a light painting night, we'd originally planned to shoot the sunset then wait till it was dark enough to light paint so we went over to Magpie mine, unfortunately heavy cloud rolled in killing off any chance of a sunset. The clouds did clear later though giving us a nice bit of colour making a great backdrop to the mine headgear.
One of the great things with the Olympus camera is the 'live composite' mode which made it possible to shoot this image, the ambient light levels were still relatively high giving me an exposure of 2.5 secs for the sky but I needed around 4 minutes to spin the orb and light the rest of the structure which would've severely over exposed the shot. By selecting a 2 second 'LC' exposure I could take my time building up the image knowing that I wouldn't overexpose the shot or appear in the frame while spinning the orb or moving around lighting the area with my torch.(Olympus EM-1 mk2 7-14mm f/2.8 pro 2secs live composite over 4 minutes f/6.3 @ 8mm)
